Description: I’ve wanted to build a top shelf 3D printer kit for a while, and now I present part 5 of the Rat Rig V-core 3 series. In this video we start to really push the limit to see how fast we can print a 3Dbenchy. Also covered are topics such as the final cost and whether input shaping can be used on other machines. This video aims to be a lesson in the factors that really matter when printing fast. I push specific areas until they become a limitation and then look for fixes. An important thing to note is that my printer sticks to ‘off the shelf’ upgrades. Hopefully it means this video is more relevant for the average viewer. It also means that there is a lot of incredible custom work going on by the really fast entries that is fascinating to see. This kit was purchased with my own money, apart from the shipping which was provided free of charge by Rat Rig. All opinions expressed are my own. This config is based on the V-core OS package. 0:00 Introduction Rat Rig V-core 3 build playlist: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGqRUdq5ULsO0oLRZ1wiYvvpbhj4EV-Nf 0:50 Input shaping effective on other printers? 1:20 Total cost of the machine Spreadsheet of build costs: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wVyGMtsWn2Eqo9TpRhfQQ941j0lPkt9nLSLhpScyv6k/edit?usp=sharing 2:32 What is the #speedboatrace? 3Dbenchy: thingiverse.com/thing:763622 #speedboatrace challenge from Annex Engineering: youtube.com/watch?v=7zkKcFtLAks MirageC’s impressive entry on the HevORT: youtube.com/watch?v=ZtpQwZyuZP8 Stefan from CNC Kitchen’s great video attempting this challenge: youtube.com/watch?v=hSWjlf5aNIU 3:54 Stepper motor driver cooling and performance optimization My custom Rat Rig parts: thingiverse.com/thing:4871564 5:12 Speed vs acceleration - An analogy Railton Special land speed record car: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Railton_Special Checkered flag stock image: cliparting.com/free-flag-clipart-15991 Dragster stock image: subpng.com/png-o8ahl2 6:54 Speed vs acceleration - Calculating effective settings Prusa calculators: blog.prusaprinters.org/calculator_3416 8:15 Speed vs acceleration - Real life examples 9:33 Improving part cooling SuperSniffles’ Dual 5015 cooling mod: contrib.eva-3d.page/cooling/dual_5015_part_fan Mikkel Schmidt’s 7035 fan mod: contrib.eva-3d.page/cooling/7530_part_fan My remix parts for the Rat Rig: thingiverse.com/thing:4871564 11:05 Switching to other filaments Volcano PLA at X3D: x3d.com.au/products/volcano-pla-1-75mm 12:59 Upgrading heating power and hot end flow Mosquito Magnum Hot End: sliceengineering.com/collections/mosquito-the-professional-hotend/products/mosquito-magnum%E2%84%A2-hotend?p=rkZeSrMZw Triangle Labs silicone sock for Slice Engineering hot ends: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_9i0Mf3 EVA carriage: main.eva-3d.page 15:26 Slicer tips and tricks Prusa Slicer: prusa3d.com/prusaslicer 16:54 Square corner velocity This is the equivalent of jerk/junction deviation in Marlin and allowable instantaneous speed change in RRF.
